Maldives 2100

Maldives 2100, 20”x28”, Oil on Canvas: IPCC’s projection of a 60 cm rise in sea level is a reality – and hence, a blazing hot sun; a dhoni asunder; a lone ghastly fisherman; a shark bleeding profusely and drowning; and of course, the proliferation of jellyfish and algae are all a part of everyday life. This is a small experiment I did a year ago. The idea isnt very original as I borrowed heavily from various sources.

Raiyvilla tahku therey

Raiyvilla thaku therey, 28"x40", Oil on Canvas - For the last 6 months I've been wanting to add some finishing strokes to the sea. I think it looks more like a barren wasteland than sea.

Chrysanthemariyabu

Chrysanthemariyabu, 18”x24, Oil on Canvas – I wanted to paint a red chrysanthemum. The result is not what I had in mind --- and so the title ‘Chrysanthemariyabu’. :-)

Rankamanaa Madukollaa

Rankamanaa Madukollaa, 18”x20”, Oil on Canvas - Amir says this looks too 'clean' - ie colours do not blend together. I agree. By the way, art, says Amir, is ‘anything and everything’. To him there is no such thing as ‘bad art’ ;-)

Haruge Ablaze

Haruge Ablaze, 18"x24", Oil on Canvas - I'm happy with the Haruge, Dhoni and the inferno. But I couldnt quite get the figure right...For him to have a right leg like that he has to have an unusually long femur :-)
